Pediatric Urgent Care RN – 12-Hour Day Shifts | No Nights or Sundays

Rockville, MD
Part Time to Full Time
Experienced

7:00 AM–7:00 PM | No Overnights | No Late Nights | No Sundays

Love pediatric emergency medicine—but ready for a schedule and work environment that offers a little more balance?

We’re looking for an experienced Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) to join our pediatric urgent care team. This position is ideal for a nurse who enjoys the pace and variety of emergency medicine but is ready to trade overnight shifts, late nights, and the unpredictability of the hospital environment for a 7:00 AM–7:00 PM schedule in a collaborative, team-oriented pediatric practice.

And unlike many urgent care settings, you won't necessarily say goodbye to a patient forever when they walk out the door. Our urgent care is connected to an established pediatric practice, giving our team something unique: the excitement of acute care combined with meaningful patient continuity.

Why Our Nurses Enjoy Working Here

Your shift actually ends in the evening.
Our ideal shift is 7:00 AM–7:00 PM. There are no overnight shifts, no late-night shifts, and no Sunday work. Nurses are required to participate in a rotating Saturday schedule with the rest of the clinical team.

You’ll still use your emergency nursing skills.
This isn't a position where an experienced pediatric emergency nurse will feel like their skills are going to waste. Our nurses assess and care for children with a wide variety of acute illnesses and injuries and play an important role in keeping the urgent care moving safely and efficiently.

You’ll have autonomy but you won't be on an island.
We're looking for an experienced nurse who is comfortable assessing patients, prioritizing care, recognizing when something isn't right, and working independently. At the same time, you'll be surrounded by a collaborative team that communicates, jumps in when things get busy, and works together to get everyone through the day.

You’ll get to know your patients.
One of the things that makes our environment different from a traditional ER or standalone urgent care is continuity of care. Many of the children you treat are part of our larger pediatric practice. You may care for a child during an acute visit and see that same family again later. You become part of their healthcare team; not simply one stop in their care.

Leadership is accessible.
We believe good leaders should be approachable, knowledgeable, and willing to teach. Questions are encouraged, and our leadership team is available to help work through challenging situations. We want our nurses to continue developing professionally, and we're happy to support team members who want to strengthen their skills, expand their knowledge, or work toward their next professional goal.

What You'll Do

As a Pediatric Urgent Care RN, you'll work closely with our providers and clinical team to assess and care for pediatric patients with acute illnesses and injuries. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing pediatric assessments, obtaining histories, and documenting vital signs

  • Recognizing and responding appropriately to respiratory distress, injuries, and other acute conditions

  • Starting IVs and managing IV fluids and medication infusions

  • Administering medications, injections, and treatments as ordered

  • Performing blood draws and collecting specimens

  • Processing point-of-care testing, including flu, strep, COVID, and urinalysis

  • Preparing specimens for outside laboratory testing

  • Assisting providers with procedures, examinations, and treatments

  • Educating parents and caregivers regarding treatment plans, diagnostic testing, medications, and follow-up care

  • Maintaining appropriately stocked and prepared clinical rooms

  • Communicating and collaborating with providers and other clinical team members throughout the shift

  • Helping identify what needs to happen next and jumping in to keep patient flow moving

Who We're Looking For

This role is best suited for an experienced pediatric nurse who is confident working independently in an acute-care environment.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • An active Registered Nurse (RN) license

  • At least 2–3 years of pediatric emergency medicine experience in an Emergency Department or pediatric urgent care setting

  • Strong pediatric assessment and triage skills

  • Experience with IV insertion and infusion management

  • The ability to recognize changes in a child's condition and respond appropriately

  • Confidence working independently and making sound clinical judgments within the RN scope of practice

  • Strong communication skills with children, parents, providers, and coworkers

  • A team-first attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed

  • The ability to stay organized and positive in a fast-paced environment

A Different Kind of Urgent Care Environment

Some days are busy. Some days are unpredictable. That's urgent care.

What makes the difference is who you're working beside.

Our team communicates, helps one another, laughs together, and understands that when everyone pitches in, the entire day runs better. We want experienced nurses who can work independently but who also genuinely enjoy being part of a team.

We also believe you can have a challenging and rewarding nursing career without working overnight or every weekend.

Schedule

Typical Shift: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM

  • No overnight shifts

  • No late-night shifts

  • No Sundays

  • Saturday rotation required (typically 1x a month spring/summer and 1.5 shifts in the fall/winter)

Both the schedule and position are designed for nurses who want to continue practicing pediatric acute care nursing while creating more predictability and balance outside of work.

Ready for a Change From the Traditional ER Schedule?

If you love caring for children, enjoy the clinical challenge of emergency and urgent care medicine, and want to work somewhere that combines autonomy, teamwork, patient continuity, approachable leadership, and a more sustainable schedule, we'd love to meet you.

Bring your pediatric emergency experience. We'll give you an environment where you can put it to work and continue growing.
